In 1973, Grand Hyatt occupany rate was around 40%. The owner of the hotel, 85 year old Mr Zhang was a follower of the Abbott Hong Chuan (宏船法师) and has donated much money to his temple. He then ask the then GM to contact Abbott Hong Chuan to do a fengshui analysis for his hotel.

Abbott Hong Chuan learned fengshui in the 1950’s from Master Eu See Ying @ Yen Pen. The fengshui sect was that of 談氏三元玄空地理.

談氏三元玄空 Fengshui Sect. Abbott Hong Chuan is the 3rd Master

When Hong Chuan came to the hotel, he saw that the fountain in front of the hotel was not working for quite some time. As the hotel was not profitable and repairing charges was high, it was left as it is, unrepaired.

Hong Chuan immediately asked that the fountain be repaired immediately. He chose a date and time to make the existing fountain operational at 10.00 am.

Also, when the Hyatt Regency Hotel in Singapore opened, the entrance doors led straight to the cashier’s desk. This is not favourable in the eyes of fengshui practice. The doors were re-set so that they were at an angle to the cashier’s desk

On the day the fountain started at 10 am, at 2 pm a Jumbo Jet carrying 380 passengers called up Hyatt to ask if there are rooms to cater for them as the plane was delayed. From that day, the business become better and better. On the fourth day after the implementation the hotel was fully booked. On redesigning and completion the Hyatt experienced growth in occupancy to around 57% in the first year, 69% in the second year and 75% in the third year

Abbott Hung Chuan also informed Hyatt that a renovation needed to be carried out by 1983/84 in order to accommodate the change in the Feng Shui reigning period from 6 to 7. He advised to keep the Nutmeg Road exit open. At that time nobody understand what he mean. Until 1984, when Hyatt brought over the neighbouring plot of land did this advice make sense. That Nutmeg road was the connecting point between the old and new Hyatt building.

Rumoured Hung Chuan is the one, a certain minister mentor trusts alot and seek advise from.

That’s how Singapore’s $1 coin got it’s octagon on the coin design, as advised by the abbott. Why?

It was the ill-advised building of the Sheares bridge, seems to have violated some fengshui, or dragon line.

Story heard from a friend, who heard from another. Might not be true.
